When plans for the update of the Kennedy Library began, the University kept users in mind throughout the process. Important new Library areas include:
- a two-story Grand Reading Room
- a high-tech 53-workstation Productivity Center
- 43 Group Study Rooms to support collaborative learning
- a 24-hour lab with 78 computer stations
- a Special Events Room for seminars, symposia, and receptions
- six classrooms and
- a state of the art Learning Commons that encourages “search and discovery” through a 60-work station center.

I think having an open and welcoming space is important so that people feel comfortable working and studying there. The natural light and windows overlooking green spaces is great for stress-relief. I like that this library also has study rooms so that groups or individuals can have their own workspace so that they don't disturb other users.

With higher education's focus on collaborative learning, it looks like that stress-relieving, user-friendly people space is fast replacing the traditional library.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing I thought was interesting was the addition of a 'a Special Events Room for seminars, symposia, and receptions.' I like the idea the library is adding this to allow patrons to hold these without having to go somewhere else. This to me is a new draw that just brings more people to the library.
ReplyDeleteThanks, all! I'm a fan, too. I do with there were more pictures because it looks like it turned out beautifully.
